Where do we get our funding?
Actually, we have NO regular funding! We rely upon three main streams of income - community fundraising event participation, donations (individuals, businesses and service clubs) and philanthropic grant applications - which we apply for as often as possible! There are fluctuations up and down over time, but roughly split each of the three areas of income streams accounts for about 1/3 of our funds each year. We continue to look for regular funding sources, but in the meantime we really need you to jump on board - can you give just $10 a month? If so, please sign up to donate regularly and #BePartOfTheVillage - we'll send you a little thank you in the post as well as keep you up-to-date (we won't flood your inbox!) with how your money is working to support local families. We have a business donation option too, so read the info at the above link - thanks!
What’s in a name?
We get asked all the time, 'Who's Olivia'? Olivia isn't a person, but more of a meaning. The name means peace, beauty, dignity and fruitfulness - the first 3 outlining the approach we take in caring for our families and 'fruitfulness' being a word synonymous with pregnancy.
Olivia is a name represented beautifully by an olive tree in our logo. The tree is rounded to reflect pregnancy, and a tree has roots for a strong foundation to let the family's branches grow - with support. All of this, along with compassion, community and empowerment, encompass our approach to delivering services.
Our Beginning & Now
Olivia's Place was co-founded in 2012 by Kirsten Finger and Melissa Raymond. Initially established under a national organisation, Olivia's Place is now independently governed by a local committee of people with a focus on supporting families through the highs and lows of pregnancy and early parenting. As mums and dads, the team at Olivia's Place has a great understanding of the need for support during pregnancy and the early parenting period.
The service is staffed by a fantastic team of volunteers, led by a General Manager of Operations, who all have access to professional training specific to their role at Olivia's Place.
Olivia's Place has the mission of offering support during any stage of pregnancy and early parenting assistance in the first year of your child's life. We provide practical, material and emotional support and a much needed link between those facing difficulties during pregnancy and early parenting and the services they need, within a professional framework.
We are a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) as a Public Benevolent Institution and approved as a Deductible Gift Recipient with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). This means that all donations over $2 made to Olivia's Place are tax deductible. To find out how to donate visit this page.
